The dynamic mechanical characteristics of rock under high strain rate is always a difficult problem in rock mechanics. The strength and stability of the engineering rock mass will be affected when it is subjected to the impact of blasting vibration. This paper on the existing laboratory SHPB test system was improved. Through the indoor experiment, gabbro were mechanical research system under the dynamic load and static load. Then the application of the numerical simulation software was verified by calculation. The main contents are as follows:(1) Using the numerical simulation software, the half sine stress pulse wave is more suitable as the SHPB load wave. The stress uniformity of the specimen and the constant strain rate are analyzed.(2) The mechanical characteristicsincluding the failure process and failure form of gabbro are analyzed under uniaxial compression.(3) By analysis of the shaper of four kinds of materials, the tape shaper is suitable for SHPB experiment system.(4) Through in the end surface of the incident bar tape shaper, doing the dynamic mechanical performance experimentsof gabbro are under different strain rate.(5) Using the gabbro basic mechanical parameters, The HJC dynamic constitutive model parameters is computed. Making use of the ANSYS/LS-DYNA simulates the SHPB test of gabbro in different strain rate.(6) Using the numerical simulation results analyze the ultimate failure of rock samples and the failure characteristics of rock under the same strain rate.
