Design Of Toilet And Bathroom On The Theory Of The Needs

Under the national conditions of accelerated aging, the life of old people and their demand should get more attention. The bathroom is a private place which is used by the old people frequently. It is an important and complicated space. This paper analyzes the living habits and physical condition of old people, as well as the action mode, using frequency and safe elements in the bathroom through researching materials,field survey, and questionnaire, so that to sum up the ordinary and special needs of physics and psychology for the old. Inspired by the current development of barrier-free bath of city old people, and compared with the developed bath design for the old in other countries, this paper reflects the insufficiency and problems of the bath design in our country. On this basis, the theory of demand is applied in the design of barrier-free bath. Setting the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs as the foundation, this paper combines the needs theory with bath design, analyzes the effects of need theory on the bathroom design, and research the rational and emotional level of bathroom design deeply from this angle. Based on the elder demand of each hierarchy, the paper analyzes the overall deign as well as the three major improving designs in detail, including the dimensions, interaction design, function, lighting, color and auxiliary facilities, etc. The demands of the old are reflected on the design in every aspect. The paper is to explore the most convenient barrier-free bathroom and its construction and design plan, provide the best and convenient service for the old in the trend of more human and emotional design.
