The lack of advanced equipment and high techniques in the production of TraditionalChinese Medicines is the key factor resulting in the lower content of effective ingredientsand higher impurities, which in turn have unfavorable influence on the medical efficiency.In this experiment, we focused our works on the application of the advancedequipment and techniques in the purification of the Lian Hua Qing Wen extracts with thepurpose to improve the quality by maintaining the effective ingredients while withoutsacrificing quality. The availability of inorganic ceramic membrane in the purification ofLian Hua Qing Wen extracts was also investigation together with the quality stability andthe pharmacological efficiency.Three kinds of Al2O3inorganic ceramic membrane with different pore wereinvestigated on the purification effect of the extracts either from Lonicera japonica or fromthe composite Lian Hua Qing Wen. As the results shown, the inorganic ceramic membranewith the pore of50nm could be applied to the purification of the Lian Hua Qing Wenaqueous extracts.The inorganic ceramic membrane with appropriate pores were found to have bettereffects in the transfer of effective ingredients and removing of the solid impurities than themethod of alcohol precipitation and could get a transparent filter liquor. By comprehensiveconsideration of the investigation on equipment and the cost of operation as well as theinfluence on the stability, the filtration temperature of the Lian Hua Qing Wen extract wascontrolled with the range from50℃to60℃.As the results shown, an obvious reduction on the filtration efficiency was found in thepurification the two aqueous extracts in the first30min. Thereafter, the filtration efficiencykept constant for5hours. A sharp reduction on the filtration efficiency was found, indictingthe occlusion of the filtration membrane. So, the life span of the inorganic ceramicmembrane was kept with5hours. Deionized water was added for renewing filtration when10%of the original volume of the extract was left. Also, the alternative use of strong acidand base cold renew the filtration efficiency of the filtration membrane.Three batches of Lian Hua Qing Wen capsule were manufactures by the noveltechnology and their stability was investigated for6Mons and36Mons. As the resultsshown, the commercially packaged products prepared by the novel technology were ofstable quality which is better than the product by original technology.The acute toxicology, in vivo antibacterial and anti-flu efficiency of the novel productwere found to be same of the products prepared by the original technology. As the economiceffect,¥117.087was saved per100million capsules by the novel technology compared withthat of original technology.
