Study On The Ancient Dowry "Lian" In Ming And Qing Dynasty

Lianas one kind of the life appliances in ancient times, which already appeared in the Western Zhou Dynasty and began popular in Spring and Autumn period. The phylogeny of Lian represents the evolution of ancient toiletries. Particularly, its different status presented in a different era on behalf of the level of productivity,the aesthetic of people and the pursuit of life in each era. To Ming and Qing Dynasty, Lian was manufactured with hardwood mainly and the shape from round-shaped bottle evolved since the Song Dynasty to box-shaped with functions of storage items and can set up mirrors. Regardless of the manner in which artifacts changed, are inseparable from people who manufactured them. Because in addition to reflecting the production of Lian with superb skills from artisans, more critical point is the design think that occur in the manufacturing process.The studied object in this paper, "The Ming and Qing Lian" means the appliances that from Ming Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, which appeared portability features and has functions of placing dressing appliances and toiletry items. Intends to analyze main features of the Ming and Qing Lian from the collected images and documentation, and then explore the reasons for the formation of these features, and then discusses the reasons why it shows that kind of traits. Finally, dig out the artisan creations thinking hidden in the type. Overall, the research ideas of this paper are as follows:Why study the design features of Ming and Qing Liana- How to go with the design features of the Ming and Qing Lian-What are the characteristics of Ming and Qing Lian-What reasons that made them show like that-How to treat this kind of reasons (Research value).In this paper, the first chapter is to clarify the significance and the background of this study by analysis of the existing literature. Then show the overview of Lians’s historical background through the summary of Lian. In Chapter II.combine the background of each era with the shape,the material etc. to clarify the phylogeny of Lian. With the method of comparison, make a summary of the basic features of the Ming and Qing Lian. After explaining the classification principles, divided Ming and Qing Lian into three types functionally. They are Mirror Frame, Small Mirror table and official suitcase.Chapter III is about the analysis of the Lian from the aspects of Shape, structure, decorative patterns and craft etc.Chapter IV is the investigation of how artisanconfirm the design of Lian and the relations between user, Lian and the artisan. The last Chapter is attempting to provide ideas and methods for modern design about the treatment between objects and human being.
