At present, market economy intensifies the competition among companies, at themeantime, resource depletion, environmental pollution, and haze, etc. draw publicattentions to corporate social responsibility issues. Tourism, as a rapidly developingsunrise industry, on one hand, has promoted the development of national economy,employment and the quality of life, on the other hand lacks social responsibility intourism product development, protection of employees’ rights, integrity of travelcompanies, etc., which seriously affects the travel agency’s image in the public as wellas restricts the scientific development of travel companies themselves. Under theconcepts of eco-tourism and green world, the status quo of China’s travel agencies, thecrux of the issue, and measures can be taken worth in-depth discussion and academicresearch.In this paper, we explore social responsibility of travel agencies with a case studyof China International Travel Service Head Office. The whole paper is divided into fiveparts. The first chapter introduces the idea of this paper in terms of background,research review and research methods. The second chapter analyzes the theoretical basisof social responsibility relevant to travel agencies, and points out the responsible partiesand the necessity to fulfill their social responsibilities at this stage. In Chapter3, a Casestudy of CITS is introduced to analyze the current situation of China’s travel agencies interms of their social responsibility. As core of this paper, this chapter presents theachievements of china’s travel agencies in economic development, environmentalprotection, social welfare and manifestations of social responsibility missing based onreal examples. The fourth chapter analyzes the main reason for lacking in socialresponsibility of agencies from the perspectives of agency owners, social responsibilitymanagement system, the level of economic and social development, and socialresponsibility evaluation mechanism. The fifth chapter proposes specific measures fromdifferent angles for travel agencies to fulfill their social responsibilities.
