Since2003, Chinese civil aviation industry had carried out a series of reform, transferring the ownership, operation rights and management rights of Chinese airports to the local government. A decade has passed and difference shows among the localized airports in their development. Some airports have obtained enormous economic and social efficiencies; some have kept struggling or even became big fiscal burdens of the local governments. As enterprises owning large amount of resources, and responsible for the value maintenance and appreciation of state-owned properties, having a character of monopoly and facing revolution at the same time, airports have to consider how to continuously improve business performance and realize their social responsibility through innovation and exploration.The target of this thesis is to provide the airport enterprises a referential growth path by performing complete analysis to the development mode of every growth period. Considering the characters of monopoly and resource-owning of airport enterprises, and the differences of revolution stage of these state-owned enterprises, this thesis tries to build an analysis structure composed of resource base, economic stimuli, and operation focus. Using the theory of enterprise growth as a guide, resource-base view (RBV) and economic law as tools, the author combines theory and practice and provides a case study and makes theoretical explanation. The airport enterprises develop stage by stage. Each stage has a relatively mature development mode. The upgrade of stages virtually represents the improvement and revolution of the development modes.This thesis takes Xiamen International Airport Group as an example, and makes panoramic, long-span, and intensive description, summary and analysis to its development progress. The airport is the first one transferred to the local government in China. By studying its development progress, we can see the transformation progress of a Chinese civil airport from an institutional organization to an enterprise, the shift of an airport enterprise’s focus from emphasizing safety, service and operation management to paying equal attention to management and administration under market system, the growth process of an airport from a resource dependent enterprise to an ability dependent enterprise. By analyzing the growth path of the group, the author provides a referential example for the domestic airport enterprises in their development.The thesis concludes that analysis paradigm of RBV is a better analyzing method to study the growth of airport enterprises. The resources of airport flow, franchise, internal market and comprehensive brands are the resource bases that an airport enterprise should constantly pay close attention to and exert itself to exploit. Airport enterprises, according to their development phase, should make use of scale economy, growth economy and diverse economy to promote the growth of the enterprise in proper order. The author hopes that the thesis can be helpful to the airport operators.
