Storage is the key point of supply chain. Therefore warehouse management directly affects the logistics operation efficiency. When the warehouse function shifts from static storage to dynamic logistics, it is necessary to redefine its function with corresponding planning and design based on supply chain and logistics so as to meet the requirements of market competition and development.Shanghai X Mechanical&Electrical Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. is a high-tech industrial corporation, the main products of which are welding equipment and materials. X Company self-supports a small and medium sized warehouse about1,500m2, which is mainly used to store equipment and materials. With the expansion of business scope, the company decided to transform the warehouse, gradually bringing some value-added service like sorting, packaging, distribution, etc. into the warehouse system. Consequently the warehouse layout needs redesigning to set aside some space for new projects and functions.This paper studies and analyses several key issues in X company warehouse renovation like functional region planning, storage location distribution and field management to form a practicable scheme for the reasonable layout and optimization of the functional region and storage location as well as improvement of the disordered field management. First, functional area layout planning. On the basis of system layout planning methods, analyze each functional region of the warehouse with reference to the design procedure of logistics distribution center. Form a preliminary plan using relationship chart regional arrangement. Then quantitative evaluation of the qualitative process and results will be conducted through fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to ensure the reliability and feasibility of the plan. Secondly, storage location layout arrangement. Analyze and classify the warehouse inventory by ABC classification and adopt different management measures concerning different goods while summarize storage mode of all types of goods combining storage strategy and picking strategy. Finally, manage the warehouse by5S movement to create a clean and orderly work environment and change the disordered on-site situation.
