Study Mode Urbanization With Beijing

Urbanization lays down the foundation to rapid economic development, contributes tothe enhancement of living standards of inhabitants, and brings corresponding social,economic and environmental benefits. Beijing’s urbanization has enjoyed the greatprogress while generates a series of problems and issues. Hence, perfection of the patter ofUrbanization is of vital importance to promote the healthy development ofurbanization.This paper firstly conducts case studies on the development and pattern ofurbanization of three major cities in the world, then it analyzes the urbanization process ofBeijing and the exploration on the pattern of urbanization, and the exploration on thepattern of urbanization of Beijing. Furthermore, this paper summarizes the achievementsfor the urbanization of Beijing, which are the significant enhancement of urbanization rate,promotion of development for industry and agriculture, appearance of industrialagglomeration function. What follows is the analysis on major problems identified in theprocess of urbanization in Beijing, which are, the urbanization of population fails to catchup with the pace of land urbanization, which falls behind the industrialization, landurbanization lags behind industrialization, dual structure is still existed; the process ofindustrialization is slow, with the development level of the city failing to correspond to theurbanization; the ecological civilization concept is absent to guide the development ofurbanization;real estate development becomes the main business of cities and towns; thenewly-built cities and towns is with single function.It is proper to characterize Beijing’surbanization with the capital functional orientation. Its industrial restructuring shouldcoordinate with the urbanization while the urbanization should interact with the ecologicaldevelopment. By adopting the prince of government guiding the market operation, thedevelopment patterns of urbanization with Beijing characteristics are proposed: theurbanization of Beijing should be carried out step by step.pattern for interaction betweenindustrial cluster and urbanization, ecological construction pattern centering on the conceptof ecological economy, distinctive town pattern, and the “people-oriented” urbanizationdevelopment pattern. Finally, the policy support on improving urbanization with Beijingcharacteristics is put forward, to accelerate institutional innovation, strengthen thecooperation between government and enterprises, and complete the infrastructureconstruction.
