Development of trade between China and Nepal (next referred to as the "Sino-Nepalesetrade"), have important political, economic and cultural significance for both China and Nepal.From the point of China, Nepal is the key for China to open up South Asian market, whichhas important strategic significance for China’s economy. At the same time, for Nepal who isbetween India and China in the geopolitical, Sino-Nepalese trade is very important. Nepal canget not only economic and technical assistance but also experience of reform and opening upfrom China, in addition, she also use the "China card" to gradually weaken and even get rid ofits long-term economic control from India. However, the development of Sino-Nepalese tradeis slowly and fluctuant, and lower than the average level of China’s foreign trade in terms oftrade volume, structure, etc. Development results are not satisfactory.In this paper, the method of qualitative and quantitative analysis, theoretical Analysis andPractical Analysis, macroscopic and microscopic analysis are used. The direction of researchis: History-Empirical Analysis-Problems–Suggestions. First is an overview of thedevelopment process and main feature of Sino-Nepalese trade which is divided into threestages. Second is empirical analysis of Sino-Nepalese trade situation from the perspectives ofcommodity structure, degree of trade combination, comparative advantage, complementaryand competition. Third is analysis of the main problems in Sino-Nepalese trade and thereasons from the perspectives of trade scale, trade system, trade structure and trading relations.Fourth are policy recommendations to promote the development of Sino-Nepalese trade.Based on analysis the conclusions are China,s advantage is manufactures and Nepal,s isprimary products, and trade complementary is greater than competition between China andNepal in Sino-Nepalese trade. In addition, the main obstacles for the development ofSino-Nepalese trade are backward economic base, intense competition, irrational investmentstructure and so on. Facing the new international situation, we should catch the opportunity tofully explore the potential of Sino-Nepalese trade and promote it from the political, economicand cultural aspects. Specific measures include enhancing the strategic level and developing along-term strategic planning and policy, strengthening political exchanges and increasing economic assistance and support continuously, increasing cultural exchanges and enhancingthe cultural identity, improving trade services facilities and building a broader trade platform,increasing mutual investment and expanding the scope of trade. All of these measures willpromote the development of Sino-Nepalese trade. |
