Supplier management is one of the key contents of supply chain management. The priority of a foreign trade sourcing company shall be given to material procurement to address customers’needs. Therefore, supplier management at a higher level will both improve customers’satisfaction and help suppliers improve the response to customers’demands. This ensures procurement quality and slashes procurement costs, enhancing the competitive advantages of the company and upgrading its position in the supply chain.In this thesis, Company A, a foreign trade sourcing company, serves as the object of study. Based on the analysis of the status of foreign trade business in China and the situation of Company A, the thesis presented the challenges Company A was faced with in its supplier management. These challenges included higher procurement cost, instable product quality, and suppliers’delay in delivery. Then, the reasons behind its challenges were probed into from perspectives of selection and evaluation, classification and development of suppliers by applying theories relating to supplier management. Ultimately, counter-measures were presented in terms of optimizing selection and evaluation, classification management as well as development and management of suppliers. This was done in anticipation that Company A would improve its key performance indicators (KPIs) of procurement cost, quality and delivery by optimizing its supplier management system to enhance its market competitiveness.
