Explorative Search And Impact Of Innovative Output: Moderating Effect Of Intraorganizational Collaboration Networks And Knowledge Networks

Explorative search is an important factor affecting the impact of innovative output. On the one hand, currently there is still a conflict among the empirical studies, which foucs on the relationship between explorative search and the impact of innovative output. So it is very necessary to go further empirical research to understand how explorative search influences the impact of innovative output. On the other hand, the contingency factors that influence the effectiveness of explorative search are received lots of attention by scholars recently. This paper argued that the most fundamental factor affecting the effectiveness of explorative search is the factor within the organization. Existing studies have failed to deconstruct the internal environment that may stongly moderate the relationship between explorative search and the impact of innovative output. In view of this, this dissertation built a moderating effect analysis framework by introducing intraorganizational collaboration networks and intraorganizational knowledge networks, to analyze how different structural attributes of intraorganizational collaboration networks and intraorganizational knowledge networks moderate the relationship between explorative search and the impact of innovative output.63listed companies in worldwide semiconductor industry from1991to2000(630obervations) were collected, through the panel data negative binomial regression analysis, this dissertation found that explorative search has a positive influence on the impact of innovative output; the density of intraorganizational collaboration networks positively moderate the relationship between explorative search and the impact of innovative output, which means explorative search will be more positively related to the impact of innovative output when the density is at the high level; the degree of dissociation of intraorganizational collaboration networks negatively moderate the relationship between explorative search and the impact of innovative output, which means explorative search will be less positively related to the impact of innovative output when the degree of dissociation is at the high level; the degree of modularity of intraorganizational knowledge networks positively moderate the relationship between explorative search and the impact of innovative output, which means explorative search will be more positively related to the impact of innovative output when the degree of modularity is at the high level.
