Under the combination of agricultural and rural push factors and non-agricultural and urban pull factors, a large-scale of rural labors began to flow from agricultural industries to non-agricultural industries and from rural places to urban areas since China’s reform and opening-up. This massive flow of rural labors contributes to China’s sustained economic growth and rapid development and provides impetus and necessary conditions for further development. However, a lot of obstacles exist in China’s rural labor mobility at present. Therefore, how to better address the problems of rural labor mobility and guide rural labors to flow in order is the key to promote China’s continuous economic growth. On the basis of previous research regarding this issue from abroad and at home, this paper applied the large sample data collected from5provinces and101villages at the levels of rural labor individuals, households and villages and studied the factors that affect China’s rural labor mobility. Rural labor mobility in this research contains two aspects, one is the flow of rural labors from agriculture to non-agricultural industries and the other is mobility to different places. This paper first applied nested logistic model to divide the decision of rural labor mobility into two steps, the first step is whether they choose to flow from agriculture to non-agricultural industries and the second is that if they migrate to non-rural places. On this basis, we analyze the data with statistical description and empirical research. On the study of factors that affect rural labors migrate from agriculture to non-agricultural sectors, this paper applied binary logistic models to analyze variables from the aspects of individual characteristics, family features, community characteristics, policy or institutional factors etc. On the study of factors that affect rural labors flow to different places, we used multivariate logistic model on the basis of push and pull model and studied the factors from the aspect of non-agricultural work situation and village situation combined with individual characteristics of rural labor force. This study finds that the flow of rural labors is subject to the combined influence of different factors at various levels, most of the research hypothesis of this paper has been verified, and only a few variables have no significant influence on rural labors’mobility in this research, thus did not pass hypothesis testing. Finally, according to current situation of labor mobility, combined with the findings and analysis of this paper, this study puts forward some reasonable suggestions to promote a more effective flow of rural labor and provides some policy Implications.
