In1996,OECD came up with the concept of "Knowledge Economy" for the first time in a report named "The knowledge-based economy", after that,this concept is widely used all over the world. With the coming of knowledge economy era, the company’s core competitiveness is no longer land、capital、equipment or other tangible property, but knowledge、technology, in other words, is intellectual capital. Foreign trade company, as knowledge intensive organization, mainly get profit by transforming knowledge to value, and their main property is intellectual capital. As a result, studying the regular pattern how intellectual capital affect company performance is important to the company’s management of intellectual capital, thereby, it can also help accomplish a bigger increment.This paper attempts to investigate how much the intellectual capital contribute to the company performance given the context of knowledge management. The literature in this area merely probe into the relationship between intellectual capital and company performance and most researchers drew the conclusion that intellectual capital and company performance are positively correlated. This paper tries to examine how knowledge management affect the contribution intellectual capital do to the company performance as an intermediate. Accordingly we seek to illustrate the relationship between intellectual capital、knowledge management and company performance from a new aspect.First, this paper reviews some theories related to intellectual capital and knowledge management, and then analyze the current situation of intellectual capital and knowledge management in foreign trade company. To illustrate the relationship quantitatively, an empirical study is developed on the VAIC model and tested using the financial data of40foreign trade companies in the market.At last, this paper analyzes the contribution each parameter do to the performance respectively and provides valuable recommendation on the management of intellectual capital according to the major findings of the study.
