Transportation is one of the basic industries of the economy, and the energy consumption of it has a large base. The annual average growth rate of transportation energy consumption is much higher than that of total energy consumption in the same period, and the transportation has become the fastest growing industries in energy consumption. In the context of energy conservation, transportation energy saving become particularly more and more important. The factors affecting transportation energy consumption and the relationship between transportation’s energy consumption and economic growth have important implications for the implementation of energy saving. The transportation energy consumption in Beijing was the object of study in this paper, through finding the large number of documents and data, basing on the view of a systematic point, using index decomposition and econometrics theory and methods, research the factors impact energy consumption in internal transportation system and the relationship between energy consumption and the national economy system in-depth.First, we divided the Beijing transportation system into two parts:the external transport systems and the urban passenger transport system. The developments in traffic and energy consumption situation of two subsystems were calculated and analyzed. The energy efficiency of transportation in Beijing was used to do a comparative study with the total efficiency of energy consumption.Secondly, established external transport system energy change model using the LMDI method, chose three main factors affecting the energy change as traffic levels of activity, traffic structure and energy intensity of transportation, quantitatively calculate changes in various factors influence energy consumption and the contribution rate. using Laspeyres complete decomposed method established a model of urban passenger transport system energy consumption changes, assuming constant energy consumption per unit of each mode of transport, based on the analysis of the population, residents travel features, travel on the urban passenger transport energy impact and contribution rate.Third, using the econometric methods established VAR model of the four time series as the added value of Beijing transportation, transportation energy consumption, the national economy and the total energy consumption. Based on the model did the Granger causality test, impulse response and variance decomposition analysis between them, discussed the relationship between Beijing transportation system energy consumption and economic growth. Finally, through the research of a series of methods in the front analysis, combined with the development and current status of transportation energy use in Beijing, propose feasible policies of transportation energy saving in the future.
