Since the introduction of the reform and opening policy, the quantity and scale of China’scities have seen a profound change. Therefore, there rise certain differences among theurban agglomerations. What diversity would be presented by the Three Urban Agglomerationsas the time goes? Whether is it developed in the development of the cities of all sizes?Whether is the system of the current agglomerations reasonable when compared with theforeign ones? What features do they present? What is it that leads to their diversity? Amongstthese questions, the thesis, based on the data of non-agricultural population after China’sestablishment of socialist market economy, made a tentative demonstration analyses on thestructural characters of the Three Urban Agglomerations. During the demonstration, theauthor will employ urban primacy index, rank-scale, index of equilibrium of cityagglomerations and theory of Rank-Clock together with grey prediction model andmulti-factor corresponding methods to discuss the issue.Research has shown that the urban primacy index of the urban agglomerations of Beijing,Tianjin and Hebei province areas is not ideal because of the dual-nuclei cities, while the indexof those in the delta region of Yangtze River and Zhujiang River is over the ideal. The latterone’s distribution is more classical, the primary city of which, As for the rank-scale characters, the structure layout of the Three Urban Agglomerations are all in coincidence with the modelof Rank-Scale layout. And there exists differences in their structure layout. The urbanagglomeration in the delta region of Yangtze River is more reasonable and mature structurelayout, whose hierarchy is conspicuous. The spatial pattern, core city as center and cities ofevery size developing jointly, has come into being, which represents typical structure ofpyramid. The urban agglomerations in delta region of Zhujiang River conform to YangtzeRiver’s. But they are inferior to those in the delta region in Zhujiang River in the scale ofprimate city, the quantities and development rate of metropolises. However, the structurelayout of the urban agglomerations of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province areas is notreasonable. The Core city, Beijing, develops rather rapidly and the scale far beyond the others, with large quantities of middle-sized and small cities left developing slowly. And thepopulation distribution there is of great difference. The thesis will take a mechanism analysisfrom four dimensions, including evolution of industrial structure of organization, Urbanagglomeration in geographic conditions, Change of governmental policy and Division ofurban functions. The prediction via grey forecast model on the structure layout of the threeurban agglomerations.Last,at the issue of the three urban agglomerations compared with the international ones.According the result, the thesis will offer some proposals against the problems, aiming atoffering profound significances and realistic meaning for the development of Chinese urbanagglomerations and improvement of policy.
