The scale and level of development of a country’s high-tech industries determine economic development level and international competitiveness of the country. As an important high-tech industry, more than60%of the achievements of biological engineering are applied into the pharmaceutical industry. The pharmaceutical industry has become one of the world’s fastest growing and the most competitive high-tech industry. It is the basis of people’s livelihood and strategic industry and will play a decisive role in the intense global competition in the future. The level of international competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry, to some extent, also affects and decides the level of the country’s international competitiveness. The strength of the international competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry in a country can be measured by its world market shares. Based on the study of existing literature and improving the other scholars’clear and quantifiable econometric model of determinants of international competitiveness of industry, this paper focuses on the representative of the country in the developing countries--China as the research object. It selects the data from2001to2010, using the world market shares as the dependent variable and the various determinants as the independent variables, and establishes a new econometric model to quantify and rank the degree of influence of the determinants of international competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry in China by nondimensionalized and gray correlation method. It attempts to explain the determinants that affect the international competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry to a certain extent by analyzing the status quo, constraints and determinants. Certain proposals are put forward to enhance the international competitiveness of China’s pharmaceutical industry. The study can provide a useful reference valuable to other countries in the world with the same or similar development problems of the pharmaceutical industry of China.
