There is a proverb says “Food is the paramount necessity of the people; land is theparamount necessity of grainâ€. Land is the foundation that people could survive and develop.Within the modern social economic technical conditions, the production capacities of landresources are limited. Agricultural resources, especially the cultivated land resources are themost important factors which restrict the agricultural development of China. On thecircumstance of limited reserved lands, increasing of sustainable growth of non-agriculturallands and decrease of cultivated land resources, the only way that can ensure the sustainabledevelopment of agricultural resources is to depend on the leading edge science andtechnology to increase the per unit area yield of lands. Therefore, in order to improve theproductivities of lands and excavate potential resources of agriculture, to evaluate thepotential productivities of lands precisely and objectively looks particularly essential forproviding technical and economical supports. The paper takes the Shenmu County in Yulin City, Shaanxi Province as an example, combining the potential productivity of cultivated lands with the potential productivities ofgrasslands to estimate the potential productivities of lands, in order to provide the theoreticalbasis for development of agricultural resources in Shenmu, and it is also referred to thedecision makers and managers of regional agricultural development. The major conclusions of the research include the following parts:1.Use the method of productivity in retrogressive to evaluate the potential productivities ofcrops. In the all villages and towns of Shenmu, the potential productivities of major crops inphotosynthetic, photoperiod and temperature, climate and lands are22391.88kg/hm~2,12744.52kg/hm~2,5778.53kg/hm~2and3835.91kg/hm~2. The rainfall is the main limiting factorof crop growth. Enhancing the potential productivities of lands need to regulate theprecipitation, strengthen the construction of basic farmland, and reinforce the waterconservancy and to apply the technology of water afflux and saving to develop the irrigationagriculture and fertilize land capability.2.Integrate the cultivated areas of six major crops in all the villages and towns of Shenmu, compare the gross product of potential productivities of lands and the real gross product to produce the potential index. Among the six crops, the most yield-increasing potential crop issoybeans which reach89.53%; the next one is the corns which reach58.79%.3.Composite the estimated results of the potential productivities in photosynthetic, photoperiod and temperature, climate and lands and proportion of each crop in each villageand town to obtain the comprehensive potential productivities, and divide the results into fivegrades. Overall, the potential productivities of lands in the northwest of villages and towns aresuperior to the southeast. |
