At14:28, on May12,2008, the Wenchuan, Sichuan Province was struck by the Richter8.0earthquake, causing heavy casualties and huge economic losses; at the same time, theearthquake reshaped the geological conditions and topography feature in the seismic area,making the water, soil, vegetation and other conditions which developed on the complex ofrocky terrain changed. The ecological restoration after the disaster is not just a simplerecovery process, but strengthen the cooperation between the human and nature according tothe geomorphologic new pattern, promoting the coordinated development of human andenvironment. The secondary disasters occur constantly during the past four years, which meanthat the creatures and human beings are suffering from the tough readaption to the newecological environment. In August13,2010, the mudslides truncated the Minjiang River andthe new town of Yingxiu was destroyed. Facts proved that an approach which respect for therules of ecological restoration and reconstruction after the earthquake is in urgent need. Theland is the bearer of the ecosystem, playing an leading role in the ecological process after thedisaster, whose restoration will greatly promote the human beings, animals and plants in thestricken area adapt to the new ecological pattern, boost the economic and social developmentin the disaster area.Wenchuan County is the study area in this paper. In the study area, marking off thevertical band by the difference of remote sensing images between before and after theearthquake, combined with DEM data. Presenting different habitats. Selected in September2007and September2008Landsat remote sensing images, comparison and use ENVI tointerpret remote sensing data, extraction of damaged ecological zones and land use map,relying on geographic information system (GIS) spatial analysis and raster data operationanalysis of the study area. The main results of the study:(1) extracting the ecological damage situation after the Wenchuan earthquake;(2) achieving a series of thematic maps including the artificial ecological restoration area,stream maps and traffic maps, establishing a foundation for artificial ecological restoration.(3)combining with the DEM data, solving the difficult technical for gaining the land usein the great height difference.(4) dividing the vegetation vertical band diagram in Wenchuan County with the supportof RS, climate information, land use maps and DEM data.(5)providing some suggestions about the artificial ecological restoration and landmanagement.
