A Study On The Influence Of The Internationalization Degree Of Chinese Overseas Contracting Project On Project Performance

Under the trend of economic globalization, it is one of the most importantstrategies for Chinese contractors to promote the internationalization of the overseascontracting projects. Whether the internationalization can improve the performance ofthe overseas contracting project is urgently needed to be studied by Chinesecontractors and researchers. Therefore, this thesis studies the internationalization fromthe perspective of Chinese overseas contracting projects, and then puts forward thehypothesis that the internationalization degree of Chinese oversea contracting projecthas positive effect on the performance of the project based on the literature reviewand theoretical analysis. Multivariate statistical analysis is adopted to conductempirical test.Under the basis of the Eclectic Theory of International Production andconsidering the characteristics of the overseas contracting projects, this thesisidentified20indicators within four aspects—project tangible assets, intangible assetsand internal structure, the ability of international project management, and theenvironment of the host country, and established the evaluation system ofinternationalization degree. Then, the thesis identified5indicators with threeaspects—financial status, customer and internal procedure to evaluate the projectperformance, from the view of the contractor. Finally, this thesis established amulti-linear regression model based on98sample data, in which theinternationalization of the project tangible assets, the internationalization of intangibleassets and internal structure, the ability of international project management and theenvironmental awareness of the host country represent as independent variables, andthe project performance represents as dependent variable, and then analyzed therelationship between the internationalization degree and the performance of theoverseas contracting projects.The hypothesis put forward by this thesis is eventually tested and verified, andthe thesis finally draws a conclusion that the internationalization of project intangibleassets and internal structure has the largest impact on project performance, followedby the environmental awareness of the host country and the internationalization of project tangible assets, and the ability of international project management goes after.Meanwhile, it’s also can be inferred that Chinese overseas contracting projects arecurrently in the mid-stage of internationalization. To improve the project performance,the degree of project internationalization should be increased, and more attention ofChinese contractors should be paid to the international competitiveness of the projectintangible assets.
