The paper is written with the background of vast economic recovery ofSingapore’s construction industry in recent years together with increasedglobalisation, inflation, economic transformation, changes to governingindustrial policy, foreign labour shortage and other factors that have greatlycomplicated and increased the competitive climate and uncertainty in theindustry. As such, the paper will focus on how China-Invested constructioncompanies maintain their competitive edge over international giants in theSingapore construction arena to maintain business growth and development.The paper is objectively written based on the analysis of author’s workingcompany China Jingye Engineering Corporation Limited (SingaporeBranch) external factors and internal resource capacity, combining with itscompetitive advantage, knowing of itself and competitor objectively in theconstruction industry to form a set of practicable development strategy toincrease effective management and in turn maintain sustainable developmentand progress.The paper draws references mainly from Michael Porter’s strategic systemof developing competitive strategy, according to the method of research ofidentification, analysis and solving problems, through PEST, the value chain,Porter’s five forces etc. analysis and combined with the own characteristicsfacing the construction industry in Singapore, the paper uses the SWOT etc. strategy analysis tools and has drafted the company’s general developmentstrategy and competitive strategy. On that basis, in view of integrating factorslike manpower flow, logistics flow, business flow, information flow, capitalflow and using the theory of backward-integration, the author has put forwardthe building of the company’s steel structure department’s core competitiveforce. Lastly, combining business feasibility and through organizationalrestructuring, enhancement of building talent teams, introduction of ITinfrastructure, Perfection of inner management and corporate culture etc., theauthor has drawn up some safeguard measures for strategy implementation.
