The enhancement of the team building for training managers is urgent because of the rapid development of the training industry, and a higher demand for training managers is required. The paper aims to explore the competency model of training manager. Based on literature review and related data analysis, a discussion on the ability and the quality of personality psychology of training manager was made. Then, we chose10training managers in China and used Problem-centered in-depth Interview (PCI) as the main research method to collect the key events to build the competency model of training manager.The following is our main findings:Firstly, training manager play four main roles,such as training expert, strategic consultant, change consultant, leader. The competency model of Training manager includes nineteen types of knowledge and skills and fourteen types of core competencies.Secondly, Using Problem-centered in-depth Interview (PCI) can construct the competency model of training manager effectively. The effect would be much better if PCI combined with other research methods.It contains5chapters.Chapter1introduces the research background, targets, and significance.Chapter2introduces the theory of competency and competency model. Then it makes a literature review on competency model of training manager and describes the research design.Chapter3involves the establishment of the conceptual framework of training manager’s competency.Chapter4introduces the construction of competency model, including the process of PCI and analysis of coding result, discussion of the structure and contents of the model.Chapter5describes the reflection on research methods, research processes, research results, and the prospects for future research as well.
