Liquid-core optical fiber is a new type of optical transmission product. Based on the theory of total reflection, Liquid-core optical fiber uses large diameter flexible hose polymer as cladding material and different transmission characteristics of the liquid material as the core, which make the Liquid-core optical fiber become a light guiding medium of large core diameter and numerical aperture, high light transmission efficiency, wide spectral transmission range, high optical power transmission, long service life, low cost, easy production and etc. Compared to the solid fiber core material, Liquid-core optical fiber can fit different situation of light transmitting and achieve better transmission through choosing different types of core material.Based on the original liquid-core optical fiber, this thesis studies a kind of Liquid-core optical fiber whose soft core materials are made of ionic liquids and therefore designs a kind of liquid-core optical fiber that owns good transmission performance. Then this thesis studies the transmission characteristics of that fiber. We used FEP with low refractive index in the visible range as cladding layer. And the inner surface was coated by Teflon AF, at last filling the ionic liquids into fiber core. The thesis designed a kind of ionic liquids liquid core optical fiber which has good transmission characteristics in the wavelength650nm. Using [EMIm] ntf2ionic liquid as the core material, the numerical aperture is0.55and the minimum attenuation loss is0.012232dB/cm. Then the thesis studies the bending losses of this fiber. We also compared the ionic liquid liquid-core optical fiber with other common liquid-core optical fiber such as CaCl2and CCl4liquid-core optical fiber. Because the ionic liquid has a wide liquid temperature range and low vapor pressure, therefore, the ionic liquids liquid core optical fiber has great advantage in some extreme situation such as the temperature below0℃and above100℃.
