Liquid core Optical Fiber (LCOF) is a new-style optical fiber, it is adopted transparent liquid as its core. Different liquid systems can be used in different wavebands. So the choice of liquid core is greatly abroad.A new soft optical and electrical transmission medium which can transmit optical and electrical signal simultaneity was made by injecting ionic liquids into a quartz capillary tube with the inner diameter of 0.32mm. 10 types ILs were used to make transmission media in our experiment. The characteristics of transmission medium were studied firstly by experimental method, such as the influence between optical and electrical signal, numerical aperture, attenuation, impedance and the maximal AC voltage that the medium can transmit. It is found that optical and electrical signal can transmit respectively when the frequency is higher than 10Hz. The numerical aperture of the medium can achieve 0.554, which is bigger than the traditional optical fiber transmission medium. The attenuation is relative to both the types of ILs and wavelengths. The impedances are sensitive to temperature, and at the same temperature the impedance disparity of different transmission media can achieve more than 10 times. In this paper, the ILs stability in the Electric AC filed was studied firstly with using a new method. The result showed the steady voltage that the max voltage of ILs couldn't be electrolyzed was higher with the frequency was increasing, and the change of steady voltage with the frequency isn't linear. The steady voltage is great different with the different electrode (Pt, Au, GC), and the steady voltage with GC electrode is higher than Pt electrode, pt electrode higher than Au electrode. The investigation results in this paper show that ILs is feasible for LCOF.
