Physical parameters of the atmospheric particles such as size, surface and volume play an important role in determining the effects on human health. Recently, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) has been introduced as a robust and complimentary technique to measure the particle morphology and size parameters. However, it has the limitation of two dimension (2D) measurements which might not be sufficient to reveal the exact size, surface and volume of the particle under investigation. For which we require a three dimension (3D) measurement data of the particle. In this study, we would like to determine the3D data of the nano size level black carbon particles coupling the digitally processed2D image data of the TEM measurements and a suitable algorithm. First, the2D images of the black carbon particles will be captured by TEM and the particle boundary will be traced by using the canny algorithm. Then the3D morphology of the particles will be determined by stretching and fitting or revolving round its axis of the statistic analysised2D image data, and the physical parameters like exact size, surface and volume can be obtained susenquently and used to evaluate their effects on the human health.
