In modern society, a growing number of universities have initiated the information technology project of education and teaching. However, the great majority of universities still adopt the OLTP system to handle teaching affair. Although the OLTP system can realize the simple functions such as the record and calculation, it does not support the overall analysis or help the manager with decision-making process. What is more, a variety of data experiencing exponential growth has also emerged as the burden for the education and teaching information system. As an important emerging technology that aims at the research and application of the database, the data mining can not only turn the redundant data into the wealth but also dig out some knowledge of great significance, which can not only aid the teaching activities in the university but also act as the important safeguard of ensuring teaching quality and improving the quality of students.The main content of the paper will be presented as follows.Make the major topic. By making a study of the origin of the data mining as well as the application in various industries, this paper has conducted an in-depth analysis of the classical algorithm of data mining. After making analysis between the historical data and Practice Teaching, this paper has also come up with then major topic of data mining by the grade of students and students in different clusters.The cluster analysis. At the stage of data preprocessing, this paper has seen the grade of students in our school as the data to be mined and also proposed the clustering analysis model, which focuses on the grade of student. What is more, this paper has also made use of the classical algorithm of data mi-ning named K-means to conduct the clustering analysis on the grade of students enrolling in2012. Those students will be divided into five clusters with a certain degree of universality. The most obvio-us problems in each cluster will be also analyzed so as to provide some teaching basis for those educ-ation workers.The association rule. The analysis model of association rule that is based on the result of cluster analysis, based on the feature of student grade in each cluster, this paper will employ the Apriori model to dig out the universal problem and tendency of each cluster, which will be used to facilitate the student cultivation according to different clusters.This paper has proposed a data mining system that is targeted at the student grade and also turned out a great amount of valuable knowledge, which will be of great reference value for the education workers and managers in our school.
