With the rapid development of smartphone technology, it has become possible to realize the complex calculation on the mobile phone. Many smartphone operating systems, such as Android, iOS and Windows phone, support complex functions, for example, video playback. As a consequence, more and more applications with different functions are developed to the mobile phone to offer convenient service for users.This paper realizes a video player based on Android platform. The player can play sports video and analysis some tactical information at the same time. Android is an open source operating system based upon Linux, mainly used in portable devices. Its advantage lies in its openness and providing free services. It is a open platform for the third-party software, that enables developers to have a greater degree of freedom in software development. It is because of its openness that Android system has been developed rapidly. And its functions are becoming more and more powerful. It is well-supported in video playback and analysis. It meets the environment and operating conditions of this research.This issue is one research project of "scout and Analysis system of Sports Video" developed by Software Architecture Laboratory in North China University of Technology. First, we embed the annotation information into the sports video by using the research results of the laboratory to prepare for the extraction and analysis of tactical information.On the base of using the sports video files embedded annotation information, this paper presents a design scheme of sports video player based on Android. Through the research of the technologies of video annotation and extraction, JNI, NDK and FFmpeg and so on, a player has been implemented to play and analyze the sports video in which annotation information has been embedded. This player can play most video files and can also help the user to acquire the useful information from the video file conveniently, accurately and efficiently by analyzing the sports video embedded annotation information. To a certain extent, it can provide a reference in training for the athletes.Finally, the paper analyzes the system performance by some practical test cases. As can be seen from the comparison of test data, the aim of obtaining the tactical information from the sports video as playing it with no obvious increase in usage of system resources is achieved. It also shows that the player has good operation and practicality.
