Nowadays, research on Chinese ancient buildings has drawn a lot of attention. Also it has been a hot topic in area of Computer Graphics. With the development of computer technologies, it is no longer an "impossible mission" to reconstruct these ancient buildings with a computer. With colorful and artistic surfaces, Chinese ancient buildings have many different types and structures, which increased the difficulty of reconstruction. After studying and analyzing the structures and characteristics of these ancient buildings, this thesis chooses a objective to reconstruct. Before the reconstruction begins, this thesis introduced the background and meaning of reconstruction of ancient buildings, which pointed out the importance and urgency of reconstruction. Also the structure of this thesis is given out. To get a great result, it studied structures and characteristics of ancient buildings. Then, it gave a brief introduction of the situation of protection.According to the structure of the objective to reconstruct, way to reconstruct a revolving object can be used here. It started from a two-dimensional picture, which can be used to do the edge detection. Next step was to detect the corners which would be used to get the formula of outline by the curve fitting method. Then, an algorithm to realize a3D model of a revolving object was introduced. Based on this algorithm, an improved one was taken out, which was on the basis of the radius of a cross-section. What’s more, some examples were made to verify the improved one. With this algorithm, modeling of the target was realized. After that, this thesis studied the NPR technologies. Both sketch and oil painting effect were realized by algorithms. Thus the whole reconstruction was finished.
