With the development of high-tech technology and the innovation of modern radar technology, the range of applications has become more widespread. From meteorological science to energy exploration, from defense technology to ship navigation, radar technology has played an important role. However, current radar systems often require a command center of hundreds or even thousands kilometers away to realtime monitor radar echo, and provides accurate and stable original information of radar for observers to make judgments. Since the amount of radar original data is very large, existing radar network is unable to provide extra large trillion level of bandwidth to transmit original data, so data must be compressed, efficiently before transmission. This can not only save the cost, at the same time, but to reduce the optimized maintenance workload of system.This paper proposes a subject of narrowband transmission of radar digital video image based on wavelet transform. Which combines the developed algorithms of image compression based on wavelet with LAN transmission technology, to enhance the convenience of radar transmission system and expand the application prospect of radar. The main research contents of the paper include compression coding and transmission of radar video image.This paper contains two parts. The part one first discusses the pre-processing of radar video signal, including image denoising. In order to reduce data size greatly and be ready for subsequent compression. Secondly, through simulations this part makes comparisons of a variety of compression algorithms based on wavelet transform, and analyses the dominance of SPIHT compared to other compression algorithms in the compression ratio and reduction degree.The second part:LAN transmission of radar video image based on TCP/IP. In order to achieve fast and stable LAN transmission. TCP protocol was chosen as the transmission protocol of radar video image. A complete real-time transmission system was formed by combining the transmission protocol with the compression module of the SPIHT algorithm in the former part. It has been verified by experiment that this system has realized efficient compression of radar video image, in the meanwhile, it can complete stable transmission in the LAN between two computers.
