As the rapid development of the coal industry and shipbuilding industry, the requirements of power mining machinery and transport machinery are more and more, the quantity demanded of chain are also increasing. Therefore, the quality requirement of chain continues to improve, it’s important to defect the defects of chains. In order to overcome the many shortcomings made by workers and adjust the development tendency of defect detection.This paper based on digital image technology, the imaging processing and defect identification are applied to the automatic detection technology of chain. The digital imaging technology is the precondition of image defect detection,the work of defect detection can be continue just base on get high quality digital image.The image processing technology is the basis for the detections of image defects, the image processing technology in this paper include image filter and image enhancement and pixel subdivision,the image processing is not noly the premise of the image contour extraction but also the key step in the image defect detection system.The image processing technology in this paper is preliminary recognition for chain iamge base on module identifies,and then extract some features of the chain images,for example,the slope of chain image contour and the area of contour region.By comparing and analyzing the experiment results in order to determine whether there are defects in the chain image. This method not only can save a lot of manpower and resources, also can improve the speed and accuracy of detection.
