IP network’s capacity faced the new challenge with the convergence networks is proposed and implemented. The emerging and popularizing of the new high bandwidth services represented by high bandwidth video services is one of the important characteristics of the current network development process. Therefore, the users’demands for network bandwidth is increasing. The thesis is discussed around the access layer’s network, considering how to support lager capacities access and high bandwidth. Large-scale Access Convergence Router is proposed in the national863plan project, which also emphasizes its outstanding high bandwidth to ensure the convergence network. This is the basis condition for the high speed development of the Internet. However, more and more router’s performance can not satisfy the large scale of access network. The high efficient routing algorithms as well as the efficient forwarding and control architecture is very important for the router. Fortunately, the architecture of router has experienced a long-term development, such as the change from centralized architecture to distributed architecture. In order to satisfy the demands of high bandwidth network, the research of new routing architecture is proposed to the Internet.This thesis is aimed at research of the ACR-S’performance, which is based on the Forwarding and control separation of distributed architecture. This is a new attempt to apply in the large-scale access router, which is seen as an important theme in the internet. A distributed routing architecture based on exchanging structure is mainly introduced in this paper to realize ACR-S. This architecture not only makes forwarding and control separation, but also uses the CPU processor with high performance. In the overall structure, using Gigabit Ethernet line as control path and backup path of each line card and exchange card, equipping with large capacity memory and multi-core processor, DDB is introduced to realize the forwarding table of information. The forwarding performance of ACR-S can be improved by these actions.PPPoE is a mature protocol. The function of PPPoE protocol has much problems such as access number and forwarding speed in ACR-S. Therefore, a distributed PPPoE is realized in this thesis. The concrete realization method implements the PPPoE discovery stage and session stage respectively. The discovery messages are handled by the CPU in the control plane, while the session messages are handled by the forwarding processor in the date plane. The session stage, is also named PPP stage, can be divided into two parts of control stage and data stage. Similarly, the control messages are processed in the main control card, and the data messages have to be handled by processor core in data forwarding plane. These steps make the PPPoE packets forwarding fast and realize large-scale access. Finally, the function and performance of PPPoE are tested and analyzed in this thesis. The results show that distributed ACR-S can achieve large capacity access in the experiment, which meets the needs of the actual project.
