Concept map is a map that can describe the relationship between two or among more concepts in a direct and structural manner. Studies have shown that it can make for promoting meaningful learning and knowledge building. Besides as a method for instructional design, it can be used as an instrument for evaluation. There are quantities of well-known concept map editors abroad, but their input mode are mostly based on keyboard and mouse and few can support drawing level concept map. In daily teaching, level concept map often takes up much plane for reason of too many nodes and the interactive mode of those editors that based on keyboard and mouse as input mode is less natural than that using our hands. Thus learner’s thinking process is negatively impacted. To solve problems above, we plan to design a gesture-based concept map editor. When going, we analyses gesture input technologies and discover that gesture pen is not only suit to our habit but also can be realized easily. Additionally, we find out if the editor can unfold, fold, delete and restore the nodes, and arrive at the solution. In the process, we carry out following tasks:1. Summarize common gesture input technology and adopt pen as input method. It is easy to be realized and accordant with people’s daily habits.2. We use statistical methods to recognize gesture. In this process, we extract Geometric features at first, adopt fuzzy logic theory and combine our own algorithm to realize pattern classification. In addition, all these algorithms are based on recognition of one stroke. Ultimately our editor has following function:select, move, fold/unfold, delete/restore.3. Testing the system, we evaluate its realized effect by analysing users’ feedback information. Firstly, we make a statistic of the recognition rate. Secondly, we compare it with similar software on the time how long the two take to drawing the same map.In the end, our system was realized and worked effectively. Firstly, its recognition rate is rather high. Secondly, it can draw much faster than the similar product.
