With the growth of economy, the means of relying on the information to creative profile has become the main one of creating profit in the new era of economy, the media industry is becoming one of the pillar industries in China. According to the Chinese scholars’research, it includes a dozen sub industries such as TV, film, radio, newspapers, publishing, network media and so on. With the development of Digital technology and information technology, the media industry constantly emerge new mediums, which changing the original media market competition. In the era of new media, traditional media began to shake, the mainstream media status of industry profit distribution began to change, the industry is facing the impact of the new media and more fiercely competitive environment, the development of Hunan media industry is also affected by the larger. Hunan media industry, therefore, be badly in need of industrial optimization and the reform and must choose a correct development strategy to cope with the current media revolution.The research contents of this thesis is the development of media industry in Hunan in the new media age, the article is divided into five parts, the first part mainly introduces the related background of the development of media industry related research literatures, the second part mainly introduces to the related concepts of media industry and the theory of media industry t; The third part mainly summarized the current situation of the development of the media industry in Hunan from the analysis of development conditions, development stage and development result of the industry in Hunan; The fourth part mainly summarize the problems in the development process of media industry in Hunan by anaclisis the competitive environment of media industry by Michael Porter’s Five Forces Model. The fifth part is the most important part, through analyzing present situation and problems of the media industry in Hunan to get the good countermeasures and Suggestions of development of media industry in Hunan in the new media era. In the new media environment, Hunan media must seize development opportunities and active media fusion, at the same time to strengthen the adjustment of industrial structure and optimization, to the development of diversified and clustering, change the original simple industrial chain is given priority to with advertising, pay more attention to content production and derivatives of the promotion and development, forming a more stable and reasonable industrial structure. Only in this way, the Hunan media can cope with the impact of new media, keeping the original advantage and status of the current media market competition and obtaining sustained competitive advantage in the future media market competition.
