An XML Solution To Structurizing And Online Sharing Postgraduate Admissions Information

The application of XML technology is in a boom, and the technologies ofnetwork information structurizing and online sharing have been continuouslyreforming. With the development of all kinds of data exchange and online sharingtechnologies, the electronic document structures and release methods of theuniversities’ postgraduate admissions information are facing new changes. At present,the universities’ postgraduate admissions offices usually adopt Internet platform forreleasing, sharing, and updating their admissions catalogues and other recruitmentinformation. The electronic admissions information of both the internal universities’network and many postgraduate entrance exam portal websites is simple andconvenient. However, there are some problems needed to be solved in releasing,sharing, and updating aspects. It is difficult to compare the admissions informationbetween two different universities. Also, one university cannot easily compare its owndata among some years. There are limitations in the reuse and development by theinformation aggregation website of recruitment.This paper is aimed at putting forward related XML solutions for structurizingand online sharing the universities’ postgraduate admissions catalogues in order tosimplify and facilitate each university’s recruitment work. Through present situationinvestigation and analysis, create XML Schema for admissions catalogues, proposegeneration methods for admissions catalogues XML files, generate Word version andHTML version of the admissions catalogues, and design releasing and informingways step by step in a deep study. In addition, take Jilin University as an example totest the solution.In the creating of admissions catalogues XML Schema, this paper considers toobtain data from Word documents, support the existing standards, and put the Schemadefinitions and rules into XML sample files in order to achieve the whole national usegoal and make it have generality. For the admissions catalogues XML files generationplan, apply Schema, use InfoPath to design the e-form template for a major’srecruitment information entry and inspection. At the same time, design the professional electronic form submission and summary plan, and generate the XMLfiles which conform to the XML Schema. To generate the HTML version and Wordversion of the admissions catalogues, adopt XSLT to get middle XML files. Then,design XSLT and CSS, and convert XML documents into XHTML version ofadmissions catalogues by using a combination of XSLT and CSS.
