With computer technology widely used in the industry, The thin client, which is good stable, safety, cost-effective, easy to maintain, are widely used in postal, financial, telecommunications, government and other departmental applications. Based on a comprehensive analysis of traditional thin clients and combined with the application requirements of the new requirement, the thesis redefines the universal thin client market positioning and proposes the universal and modular concept of hardware architecture. Meanwhile, the thesis also puts forward a set of x86-based hardware design programs, while proposies a set of linux operating system construction program based on virtualization and package management system. This thesis provides a set of general-purpose thin client hardware and software solutions.The primary works in this thesis are presented as follows:(1) Through the analysis of traditional thin clients, the thesis summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional thin clients、analyse in the current situation the challenges and opportunities faced by the new thin client、redefined the thin clients new opportunities in the functional requirements and proposed the architectures of hardware based on Intel Atom x86core framework and operating system construction scheme;(2) Based on Intel Atom x86core hardware framework, the thesis designed and implemented a common core module of thin clients, including power supply expansion module, data storage expansion module, the video interface module and the universal interface expansion module, and OEM-based collaborative model, will greatly reduce the x86hardware late PCB layout design and commissioning work, but also improve the reliability of the hardware for universal thin client applications under different scenarios to provide a hardware basis;(3) The thesis analyse the design patterns of the building program of traditional embedded operating system, pointes out the development model of traditional linux operating system and shortcomings. Based on a common set of Qemu virtualization, proposed and designed a virtualization compiled program and on its and Red Hat Package Manager basis,designed a set of operating system construction scheme. This design of universal thin client hardware platform has been a well-known company’s core product, and the proposal method to build the operating system has been accepted by customers in the practical applications. As its open, stable, easy to maintain, cost performance characteristics, Universal thin client hardware and software systems can certainly accommodate more application scenarios,and has more applications in things of Internet, smart home, medical education, industrial applications and other fields. Since running, the system is stable and reliable, achieving the established design goals.
