Nowadays,980nm semiconductor laser can be used as a pump optical source of many solid-state lasers, such as, Er:YAG, Er/Yb:Glass, Er:YLF, Er:Y2SiO2, Er:BaY2F8,etc. At the same time it has also been widely used on erbium doped fiber amplifier, As long as980nm pump laser, erbium-doped fiber and coupler, the light signal can be directly in the field of optical amplifier in to save a lot of space and the price, So the980nm pump laser and single mode fiber(SMF) of the coupling efficiency is more and more get the favor of people.As the output beam of980nm semiconductor laser is highly elliptical, directly with the circular symmetric optical fiber coupling, because the two mode field does not match will be lead to coupling efficiency is very low, so using a quadrangular pyramid lens optical fiber can well solve the problem. Because it can form the different proportions of ellipsoid surface, the light field mode easily match with the flat ellipse field of980nm pump laser, so a sharp rise in the coupling efficiency of the980nm pump laser and a single mode fiber. At first, the article introduced the980nm semiconductor laser and fiber coupling technology, including the single beam and the multiple beams coupling technology, and The single beam coupling technology is divided into direct and indirect coupling, due to the direct coupling is convenient and nimble, easy encapsulation, can obviously increases the coupling efficiency advantages, we chose the direct coupling technology. Due to the direct coupling technology need to make optical fiber microlens, then expounds the design concept of fiber microlens and the design calculation methods of the coupling efficiency of fiber microlens. Then the matrix of the MATLAB software, such as a strong functions and data and visualization function has carried on the simple introduction, And I used the software of the two mode field diameter of four pyramid optical fiber microlens for the simulation of the coupling efficiency, and compare with other suitable fiber microlens coupled with the980nm semiconductor laser to draw the four pyramid optical fiber microlens has the characteristics of high coupling efficiency. Although there are a lot of the limitation of objective conditions, after unremitting efforts, I get the development of the experimental results and theoretical results curve is roughly the same, so as to prove the reliability of the theory.
