In recent ten years,with the continuous progress in semiconductor technology and cost reduction, suitable for the absorption of the Yb ion the InGaAs941nm high power the LD array of manufacturing technology has matured and commercialization. Accordingly, the hi-gh-power LD pumped Yb:YAG solid-state lasers are constantly developing, it has been wid-ely studied because it has excellent optical properties, thermodynamic properties, chemical stability and mechanical properties, especially the thin-disk lasers. It becomes the research focus because of its property,the decreasing thermal effects. Yb:YAG through second harm-onic generation producing515nm green light is closed to argon ion laser which has514.5nm wavelength. It has many applications such as medical, hologram, interfere, optical storage a-nd substitute of argon laser. In addition, it can completely solve the drawbacks of water pow-er consumption.The main contents of this paper were listed as follows:1. This paper expounded the situation of LD pumped Yb:YAG laser and illustrated the principle of thin-disk laser and its development status.2. This paper introduced the characteristics and level structure of Yb:YAG crystal, whilst made a comparison with Nd:YAG.3. Using ANSYS software to simulate the temperature, stress and displacement distribution of Yb:YAG and Yb:KGW crystal under different conditions I gained the most appropriate thickness and welding manners of crystal. Besides, I made a comparison with Yb:KGW and Yb:KGW in thermal effects.4. Throughing the experiment we achieved the maximum output power of13.55W, the optical-optical conversion efficiency was41.8%and the slope efficiency was46.1%when the water-cooled temperature was10℃and incident power was32.4W. And using BIBO frequency doubling crystal we got680mW515nm green output power when the water-cooled temperature was15℃and the incident power was24.9W, the optical-optical conversion efficiency was2.7%.
