Because of its compact structure, high reliability, high efciency, long life andexcellent beam quality, Diode Pumped Solid State Laser (DPSSL) has been used ina wide range of applications, such as communication, medical, measurement, displayand aerospace etc. Thin Disk Laser, as a kind of DPSSL, is considered very promisingfor its efective handling of the heat problems and consequent high beam quality, highoutput power and high efciency. The output characteristic of a diode direct pumpedNd: YVO4Thin Disk Laser has been studied in this thesis.The characteristic of Nd: YVO4crystal has been studied via Rate Equation The-ory, and a theoretical model of Thin Disk Laser has been built and calculated. A20.6Wlaser output at1064nm is achieved with a0.3mm-thick Nd: YVO4crystal under40Wdiode pump power, resulting a optical-optical efciency of more than50%. Compar-isons of diferent cavity length and diferent output mirror transmittance has been done.Output performances of Nd: YVO4and Nd: GdVO4at1064nm has been studied. Ad-ditionally, the quasi-three-level914nm laser output of Nd: YVO4is achieved and theoutput power is4.7W when the pump power is40W.
