All-IP is the development tendency of future network and services and packetnetwork will be the uniform transmission carrier network instead of the traditional SDHnetwork.Therefor, on the one hand, new services and applications will raise higherrequirement to network synchronization performance; on the other hand, in the process ofevolution from circuit switch network to packet switch network, high quality ofsynchronization and timing performance should be provided by packet network tointerconnect with circuit network and carry traditional TDM services.There are two mainaspects of synchronization in packet network: the compatiblity to circuit network andwireless service carrying of3G mobile communication system.Under this background, to meet the demand of transmiting high precision time inpacket network, IEEE put forward the precision time protocol(PTP). It has already beendeveloped into version2and now we also called it IEEE1588v2.The core thought ofIEEE1588v2is using the master-slave clock pattern, encoding time information, sendingtime information cycly by master clock, and using the the symmetry of link and delaymeasurement technology to make the slave clock sychronized or syntonized to masterclock.Since IEEE1588v2distributed in2008, there are a lot of academical papers haveresearch on it. Howerver, the research focus is mainly the theory study and simuliation ofalgorithm, and the study of software implementation and pratical application ofIEEE1588v2is not enough. In progress of project research, I combine theory study withpratical application, not only study the key thchnology and algorithm of IEEE1588v2, butalso propose the software implementation,test plan and application solution,whichprovides some references of IEEE1588v2’s pratical application. The innovation points ofthis paper mainly lies in the realizaion method of precision time protocol accord toIEEE1588standard and the design of PTP clock synchronization module which based onVxWorks to achieve the best master clock algorithm, the local clock synchronizationalgorithm and PTP message sending and receiving control algorithm. Chapter1of this paper summarizes the current problems of clock synchronizationtechnology in communication network and analyzes the background, development statusand research purpose and meaning;Chapter2introduces the basic concept of IEEE1588v2,including PTP equipment, PTP network topology, PTP data set and PTP protocol message;Chapter3study and analyzes the key technology and algorithm, especially the best masterclock algorithm and local clock synchronization algorithm; Chapter4designs theIEEE1588v2module, including the overall design, interface design, data structure designand program flow and implementation; Chapter5gives the test plan and applicationsolution of IEEE1588v2; Chpater6summarizes the whole paper and put forward someproblems which need further research and more improvement.
