With the rapid growth of global business, the original network bandwidth can not meet the growing traffic demand, major operators need to expand and upgrad the existing optical networks urgently, the high-speed optical network transmission technology is becoming the focus of people’s studies.Cisco has just released a report forecast that by2015the number of network interconnection devices will be more than15billion, while in2015the total amount of global Internet traffic will be four times than now anf reach to966exabytes per year. From the latest forecast report from China Telecom, the next five years, the annual growth rate of China Telecom backbone IP network bandwidth will reach40%to50%, the total bandwidth of backbone transmission network will increase from64TB/s to at least120-155TB/seven200TB/s.The key to deal with these challenges is the high-speed optical transmission technology, and for the time being, it’s100G high-speed transmission systems.100G long-haul optical transmission systems not only can meet the current needs for bandwidth, but also can accommodate future bandwidth. Compared to the previous40G and10G system, the technical difficulties of100G become a major focus of vendors, such as100G system requires higher OSNR; client side interface and the optical module requires a higher rate; more efficient modulation, coding system and receiving technology, the need for more effective error correction technology to ensure the accuracy of the transmission, and PMD requirements will be more higher. All these technical difficulties will restrict the quickly commercial use of100G system. And the initial cost of each issue will be the primary factors considered by the operators. This paper mainly discusses the development of100G high-speed system, summarizs the100G technologies, and proposes the deployment solutions of100G system, at last also come up with the concept of ultra-100G system.
