With the fast development of computer technology and Internet technology, traditionallibraries can no longer meet the requirements of readers, and therefore on-line librariescome into being with computer and Internet combined together. On-line libraries canprovide readers with one-to-one individualised services on the basis of differentrequirements of readers. How to realize individualised on-line libraries has become aconcern for many researchers.At the beginning, this paper introduces the development of individualised services bothin China and abroad, focusing on the development of on-line libraries in vocational colleges.Then this paper makes concrete analysis of a representative of vocationalcollege--Guangdong Polytechnic College, concerning the requirement analysis of theon-line library of this college and general design and detailed design of its on-line librarysystem. This individualised on-line system basically provides several function modules suchas collection inquiry, on-line renewal, borrowing inquiry, individualised recommendationand so on, and individualised recommendation is the focus of this system.This paper deals with the most important problem for on-line libraries in vocationalcolleges--individualised services, which can solve the problem that different readers havedifferent tastes, and improve the usage of paper books. This paper takes GuangdongPolytechnic College for example, and talks about the main technology adopted in theon-line library system and its main contribution.The originality of this paper lies in the fact that it draws on the experience ofindividualised recommendation technology of large-scale E-commerce websites, adopts theway of WEB data mining, collects massive reader data, associates readers with resourcesusing CMP arithmetic, adopts the unified modeling language UML as the descriptivelanguage of analysis and design, and realises the aim of intelligent recommending relatedbooks to the readers on the basis of inquiry records, borrowing history and otherinformation..
