Digital video technology is core of internet application, mobile communication,information electrical facilities. Digital video compression coding technology combinesvaries high effective and feasible picture coding technique together, which is a nonesuchin the development of picture coding technique convert utility application. Firstly, thetext summarize the development of data compression,and then elicit a importantcompression standard from multimedia data compression—MPEG-4. It defines themultimedia data grammar of audio and video, transfers in Internet, a complete set offrame between human and multimedia, cover with mostly field of multimediaapplication, the coding system of MPEG-4standard is a open system. It contains a lot ofvirtues, such as high compression ratio, good agility, expansibility and strongeralternation. The text makes brief introductions about MPEG-4and coding system, thenmakes system analysis of basic video compression coding technique.The text makes profound research about pivotal technique of digital videodisposal—motion estimation and compensation. Motion estimation,as a keytechnology about video disposal, has great influence on the real time of coding. On thebases of analyzing the correlation of the video space-time and the algorithm aboutmotion estimation which has been had we present a sort of motion estimationsearching algorithm based on motion vector field and self-adaptive direction. Thealgorithm can choose self-adaptively different search strategy according to partition ofdifferent motion block style and proper forecast of about original search point. Theexperiment proves that the algorithm enhances the speed of searching at the time ofensuring the quality of the video.
