With the development of information technology, the research of data collection andmonitoring in different environment has become popular. In the field of image monitoring, themonitoring system is still mainly based on wired equipment. In some occations, wiring isdiffcult and monitoring points are dispersed, wired monitoring is much more restricted.Wireless monitoring is not subject to a physical line, it is well suited to the occasion. Theremote video monitoring system is designed in this paper use ARM-based microprocessorsand access to the Internet using GPRS gateway for data transfer. Without the restriction ofPhysical line, any computer connected to the Internet can complete monitoring function.The image monitoring terminal use ARM processor S3C2440as the core and use Linuxas its embedded operating system. It accesses the GPRS network through GPRS moduleGTM900B. The entire monitoring system consists of an embedded hardware platform, USBcamera and GPRS module to complete image capture and transmission functions.At first, the embedded system technology, GPRS technology, and USB interfacetechnology are analyzed and described in this article. On this basis, the paper has made anoverall design and planning both from the hardware and software side.In the hardware aspect,we mainly focuse on the main control circuit, memory system, USB camera and the design ofGPRS module. On the software side, the paper discusses the bootloader and the Linux systemmigration first and then briefly explains the migration process of vivi and the installtion of thelinux operating system to build the hardware development platform. Then we describes thedesign of the software, the software mainly includes the image acquisition module and GPRSdata transfer module.At last, we carry out on the monitoring system a functional verification by experiment,and realize the remote transmission of surveillance images using GPRS technology.
