Security has become a primary concern in order to provide protected communication between mobile nodes in a hostile environment. Unlike the wireline networks, the unique characteristics of mobile ad hoc networks pose a number of nontrivial challenges to security design, such as open peer-to-peer network architecture, shared wireless medium, stringent resource constraints and highly dynamic network topology. It is vital to protect the network from different kinds of security threats. The performance of SAODV was stable whereas that of AODV was found to be degrading sharply with intrusion of some malicious nodes in the network. Mobile Ad hoc networks (MANETs) have several advantages compared to traditional wireless networks. These include ease of deployment, speed of deployment and decreased dependency on a fixed infrastructure. There have been many studies done in this area to improve the quality and efficiency of the routing protocols in manets. However unique characteristics of manet’s topology such as open peer-to-peer architecture, dynamic network topology, shared wireless medium and limited resource (battery, memory and computation power) pose a number of non-trivial challenges to security design. These challenges and characteristics require manets to provide broad protection and desirable network performance. In this age of science and technology all the technical domains are continuously grown and improved day by day different kinds of communication devices and instruments are becomes common for all human. As the domain of communication is grown need to provide high performance end to end reliable delivery is increases. At the same time security measures is a one of the most issue in communication system. There are various security issues in manet i.e. Wormhole attack, black hole attack, Byzantine attack, information disclosure and resource consumption attack are some more common attacks in manet. There is various different individual work and methods are developed to overcome these issues. But there are not any kind of common detection and prevention approach is proposed or implemented that are adoptable for manet.Nonetheless an Ad-Hoc network is a multi-hop wireless network where all nodes cooperatively maintain network connectivity without a centralized infrastructure. If these nodes change their positions dynamically, it is called (MANET).Since the network topology changes frequently; efficient adaptive routing protocols such as AODV, DRS, and TORA are used. As the Network is wireless, security becomes the major issue in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks, some of the attacks such as modification, fabrication, impersonation and denial of service attacks are due to misbehavior of malicious nodes, which disrupts the transmission. To avoid such attacks some of cryptographic algorithms, key management schemes and some existing security protocols are used. The objectives of the thesis are two-bend:firstly (a) to simulate various scenarios of attacks at manet; however (b) to study the performance dynamic and effectiveness of some secure routing protocols in these simulated malicious scenarios, including ARIADNE [1] and the Secure Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector routing protocol (SAODV)[2].
