2.94μm laser can be obtained by LD-pumped Er:YAG with dope concentration at50%. It plays an important role in laser medical systems as an ideal "scalpel".In addition, it can able be a pump source of OPO, which will produce3μm-12μm Mid-infrared tunable laser. So it has important significance in photoelectricity countermeasure. So far, there is no report of LD-pumped Er:YAG laser in domestic. In this thesis a LD-pumped Er:YAG laser was designed and the output characteristics of Er:YAG was studied.First of all, the energy level structure of Er:YAG was analyzed and the theoretical model of Er:YAG laser was built up. Then the process of laser operation was analyzed and the rate equation of Er:YAG laser was put forward with and without cross relaxation in consideration. The expression of output power was obtained.Based on the theory, LD-pumped Er:YAG laser was designed, including the desi gn of pump source and the laser cavity, and the choice of laser material parameter.By designing the parameters of the laser was determined, the LD pumped Er:YAG laser simulation was studied. The laser output characteristics are simulated applying output mirrors with different reflectivity. Finally, the designed laser proved to be reasonable and meet the required indicators.
