With the improving requirements about information security, traditional technologies based on password and ID cards cannot satisfy the demands of people. Biometrics is unique, not easy to lost and dependent on characteristics of human body. So that biometric recognition provides a more reliable method for individual identification and has many applications in our life. However, it will be permanently once the biometrics lost due to the biometrics cannot be revoked and cannot be replacement. Therefore, with the widely deployment of biometric system in our society, the problem introduced by security and privacy of biometric itself has attracted more attention. The security of biometric template is one of the important issues in this area.Chaos is a bounded, irregular and complex movement in nature. Recent studies show that there are connections exist between chaotic motion and cryptology. Different chaotic encryption algorithm can be designed based on pseudo-random sequence which is generated by chaotic system and has the characteristics of good randomness, complexity, sensitive to initial conditions, et al. There are many chaos-based image encryption algorithm has been proposed utilizes different chaotic map recently, which is also described in this paper.In this paper, we do some research on biometric template protection and image scrambling encryption technology based on chaos. After that we introduced the chaotic encryption in face recognition, and proposed a method to protect the face feature vector that extracted by PCA and LDA using the chaotic sequence generated by different chaotic map-Logistic map and Chebyshev map. The new template is obtained by scrambled the original template and saved in database instead of the original one in order to ensure the security of original template. The experimental results on ORL database show that, the encryption algorithm based on chaotic can protect the security of the original template and ensure the recognition performance of the system.
