Recently, the measurement of the height of the coal pile has a high application and market prospect. High-precision pulse radar and its signal processing are analyzed in theory under the background of the measurement of the coal pile in this article, and in view of the main ranging error caused by white noise and a technical way about using improving the SNR to improve the ranging accuracy had been used and a view about stretching the echo signal on the time axis are proposed, and realized the extension of echo signal by the algorithm of the extension of time which is based on the related thought so that the frequency of high-frequency signal dropped to intermediate frequency and the time units of signal will be from nanoseconds to milliseconds, and the device level and the cost of the system reduced. The extended signal can get high precision of time-delay estimation when it is after smoothing, adaptive filter and goes through the matched filter. According to the relationship between the distance and time-delay, the distance information can be gotten. Finally, the radar system is simulated by MATLAB tools and the accuracy of error is analyzed in the paper. The simulation results and the calculation of error show that the precision of the single carrier frequency Gaussian pulse ranging radar can reach to less than10mm.
