In the recent years, the heat flux density and compactness of electronic devices in radar have been increasing intensively as the rapid development of radar technologies, and consequently pushed the design of the thermal control system in radars to progress. The refrigeration cooling system has been promoted as a favorite candidate of radars in future because of its capability of cooling high heat flux density components in critical environmental conditions, still has some technical difficulties to overcome, such as the optimal thermal design and the de-humidification of the array, though. In this thesis, the design of the thermal control system used in a long range radar was presented, the demands of cooling was analyzed, the thermal control system was designed based on the use of refrigeration, the optimized thermal design of TR module and de-humidification design of the array were both presented, analyzed, validated by numerical and experimental methods, respectively, and finally, the performance of the thermal control system was tested and evaluated. The presented design of refrigeration cooling system was reasonable, and offered a solid reference for the thermal design of long range radars.
