Android System Browser Supports WML Markup Language Implementation

Mobile internet technologies are important for moden people. The new technologies let people be able to do everything that PC can do on smartphone, like call friends, send message, access internent, check email etc. Smartphone became the one of the most important devices in our daily life. In2009, Google released its first mobile devices operation system-Android. Till now, it has grown up to the most popular OS of mobile device in global market. Browser, as a key feature in smartphone, it is the enty to access internet. It is almost the most important application for end user. Unfortunately Android browser can not support WAP, especially WML. It’s not good user experience that browser can not access those WAP websites. This is a trouble not only for phone user but also for mobile phone manufacturer. As Android integreated Wekbit as browser engine, the root cause is Webkit does not support WML. For resolving this issue, it must enhance the functionality of Webkit to support WML. This paper analyzed the architecture of Android and WML specification firstly, specially dug into the source code of Webkit engine and invesitated the workflow of Webkit. Based on the investigation it worked out the solution to support WML in Webkit engine.
