In order to get an upper hand in the highly competitive steel industry, Xinyu Iron&Steel Group must adopt information technology to improve production and internal management. The cold rolling plant, as a key unit under the group, must strengthen information integration, optimization and management to achieve efficient production and implement the strategy of quick manufacturing.As an online management system in the production process, Manufacturing Execution System (MES) serves as a bond and bridge between the Process Command System (PCS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). Focusing on the design&development process of the cold rolling plant’s MES system, the essay highlighted the design process for several crucial technologies. Database optimization is of vital importance to the smooth running of the database. The MES system is running on ORACLE lOg database. Based on production practices and past experience, the essay made a systematic analysis of the strategies to optimize the ORACLE lOg database and managed to optimize it as much as possible. On the basis of multiple comparisons with practical scenarios, we finally decided to adopt B/W/D three-layer system structure. After a long period of debugging and program optimization, the goal of intelligent monitoring of the database was gradually accomplished.
