| Online game, as a brand-new type of entertainment, is flourishing throughout theChinese market and becoming one of the most profitable and lucrative areas amongthe network. According to the CNNIC, the amount of Chinese online gaming playersran to345million to June,2013.Interaction design plays a crucial role in online games, with man-machineinterface as the carriers, the balance between usability and gameplay as the key.Interactivity is the essential of computer game, and the research of interaction designof online game is guarantee of using interface to play games. While usability researchis rarely mentioned during the process of domestic game development, wh ich islagging far behind the advanced gaming company abroad.The writer recorded the developing process of TPS project, a Tencent game, asan intern during her graduate studies. The writer studied the interaction design andusability of online games by applying theories from design research and relateddisciplines, laying the foundation on competitive analysis and user research, andadopting combined method of empirical study and project practice, and finallysuccessfully put all these into the process of design and development. TPS projectteam adjusted the architecture of user interface and divided the modules and addedseveral new functions to improve user experience. They also redesigned interactiondesign of whole interface and created a new set of modern interface graphic style.And based on all mentioned above, the writer undertook theoretical analysis of themethod, principle, and process of game interface design, and tried to product asignificant theory system. The writer also dig deep about the key problems duringdesign and development.Tencent Game is not only a world’s leading institution of game development andoperation, but the biggest online game community in China. Tencent Game’sindependent research and innovation among all its games make itself competitive,which as a result, TPS will definitely has an influence on the explore of domesticinteraction design to some extent.
